We've produced a number of novel technologies which have already found their way into games out there on the shelves. Unfortunately, in most cases we're not able to give any further details for reasons of confidentiality.
However, one visible and commercially successful contribution is the "Drivatar" AI system underpinning the original Xbox racing game Forza Motorsport. This Drivatar system was used to provide the standard AI opponents in the game as well as to offer a novel "learning" gameplay feature which exploited cutting-edge research technology. The learning
aspect of Drivatars was perhaps the pièce de résistance of the overall system —
albeit one that was not particularly well integrated into the game it has to be
said. Anyway, you can find out more about Drivatars in our technology article here on this site.
In addition to the Drivatar system, we also contributed a number of other technical enhancements to Forza. For example, Forza's famous "suggested line" was a creation of ours which emerged as a spin-off from one of our research technologies. "A distinctive visual signature in one brilliantly simple bit of fresh thinking" said Edge Magazine. Who are we to argue?
Following on from Forza, we created the novel vehicle control system which is incorporated in the forthcoming Xbox 360 game Crackdown.
